1. Goldeneye (1995) - The Dam Jump
The movie that re-started the entire franchise and introduced Pierce Brosnan as the new Bond, Goldeneye has often been regarded as a jewel in the best of Bond films, not just for its Cold-War based storyline but for its incredible visuals and directions by Martin Campbell. The high visual point of the film? It's most iconic moment is the opening pre-credit sequence where Bond and fellow agent 006 Alec Trevaleyn (a rough and icy Sean Bean) assail a hidden bunker facility in a dam by killing guards and making a death-defying leap from the top of the dam down to the bottom. The entire sequence is silent (save for the odd sound of the wire tightening around Bond's middle) and the tension is so utterly palpable that when I first saw it, I was mesmerised. The stunt is an iconic moment in Bond's history and was a moment that not only gave movie viewers renewed confidence in a franchise trying to come back for another go at the box office with Goldeneye, it revitalised an action hero, possibly the most singular iconic male hero to endure years of highs and lows at the cinema. The dam jump said to the moviegoers: Bond is back. And we knew it was true. So those were my choices for the ten most iconic and greatest ever Bond stunts - but what are your choices, readers?
