9. Live and Let Die (1973) - Speedboat Chase
The first Roger Moore film in the franchise, Live and Let Die is a movie more rooted in some mysticism than any of the others - the heroine, Solitaire, is a psychic whose abilities are stripped by Bond after being seduced by him (in an uncomfortably misogynist sort of way) and used by her employer, Katanga, a drug baron. The film has unfortunate racist undertones to it (every person of colour is a villain or morally grey at least) but the action scenes are superior, highlighted by the thrilling speedboat chase. The scene is a brilliant, blistering display of the classic action that Bond in the 1970s personified. There's humour tied into the action, particularly as the boat-driving Bond soars over hapless American officers, showing some moments of levity to stop the film from becoming too dark. In the middle of a morally controversial film, it's nice to see that the drama/humour balance was struck nicely with this chase scene which involved the worst physical disruption of a wedding we've seen by Bond's speedboat taking a bit of a leap...
