10 Greatest Ever Minimalist Movie Posters

3. Psycho

Psycho Poster This one's slightly more subtle than the rest, such that it might take you a second to work it out, but Matt Owen strikes again, with a poster for Alfred Hitchcock's most famous film, Psycho, which appears to be hanging on a shower curtain. I must admit, the first time I saw this poster, I thought that this was a wardrobe - given that Norman Bates spends part of the movie dressed up as his mother - but of course, the rings at the top of each letter make it clear that this is the scene of Marion Crane's unforgettable demise that occurs so shockingly early on in the film. Given that the film - at least, the original version - is in black and white, it's nice to have a full-colour poster that emphasises both the loud, pulpy tone of the source novel, and the blood-red depravity of everything that goes on in the Bates Motel.
