Scott Pilgrim is one big love letter to games. Adapted from a series of comics, Edgar Wright brought this cultural phenomenon to the big screen and with Michael Cerra taking on the iconic role off Scott they created an instant, cult classic. Theres barely a minute goes by when something in video games isnt referenced or there's a casual nod to classics, ensuring that every inch of this film is laden with gaming culture. So, whether it be the Links Awakening music subtly in the background, Scott and Ramona traveling through Super Mario Bros. 2 subspace or the fact that Scotts band is named Sex-Bob-Omb, the references dont stop from beginning to end, making it a gamer's paradise. It might not be about gaming in the same way as some of the others are, but it's so steeped in the cultural reference points and language that it's impossible not to acknowledge its place in the genre.
