For many, King Of Kong is probably the greatest documentary on the subject of gaming. Focussing on underdog Steve Wiebe and his attempt to break the Donkey Kong world record, it plunges the audience into a world of sabotage and betrayal and introduces you to real life characters that feel like they wouldnt look out of place in Napoleon Dynamite. The crux of film builds a David and Goliath style narrative as Wiebe furiously tries to prove he beat the Donkey Kong world record (after his initial scored was rejected) taking it off the hands of the pantomime like baddy Billy Mitchell, the, then, Donkey Kong record holder of almost two and a half decades. The film is incredibly engrossing and even people who arent fans of gaming will struggle not to be suckered in to the ludicrous lengths some of the people featured go to, to ensure they remain top of the ladder.
