10 Greatest Film Biopics Of The Last Decade

6. Control

The life and death of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis is one that has touched many and devastated the band's fierce fans. When Anton Corbijn announced that he was making a biopic based on Curtis' all too short life, Joy Division fans we left feeling less than optimistic; worried that their beloved performer wouldn't be represented as he should. Despite the concerns, Corbijn went on to make an utterly devastating yet immensely compelling masterpiece that truly captures Curtis' spirit and the pain he also carried. Telling the short story of this enigmatic artist, Corbijn focussed on the pure talent that ran through Curtis' veins, while tastefully leading to the stars death when he killed himself just age twenty three. With the visual standards at a premium and the film shown in black and white, there is a wonderfully haunting sense of melancholy that burns within each scene; a genuine treat for Joy Division fan. With the talented Sam Riley playing Curtis, audiences were able to get a glimpse of his spirit that brought nostalgia back to his old-school fans, while inspiring new ones. Riley's performance is outstanding and Corbijn tapped into the cruelly short but wholly passionate relationships Curtis developed.
