10 Greatest Film Biopics Of The Last Decade

7. The Theory Of Everything

While many biopics will retell the stories of pop icons, royalty or fiendish criminals, James Marsh decided to delve into the life of one of Britain's greatest minds; Stephen Hawking. And while many would tackle the stories that surround his theories or the difficulties of his debilitating illness; Marsh decided to go towards a slightly more Hollywood, romantic route by retelling the story of Hawking's relationship with his first wife Jane in last year's The Theory of Everything. Based on Jane's memoir, Marsh's film takes a look back at how the pair first met and how their love grew and strained over the course of their marriage. Delving into the difficulties of his diagnosis of motor neuron disease, their blooming and passionate relationship and Stephen's success in Physics; Marsh's brilliant film takes a personal, emotional look at the life of this exceptional couple. With an all star cast including Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, and David Thewlis; The Theory of Everything was a smash hit in theatres as well as a shoe-in for awards season. Redmayne in particular was an outstanding success, putting real bravery and commitment into his performance and bagging himself the Academy Award for best actor.
