01. The Lord of the Rings

So here we are at number one and who sits atop the mountain but Peter Jackson's awe inspiring body of work known as The Lord of the Rings trilogy. And why ever not? It has everything you could ever want from a movie series. A compelling story that is well paced over the 3 films, a cast that are interesting enough to hold our attention for the million hour duration, scary bad guys, sexy elf girls and enough references to rings to keep the comedian's amongst us happy for years. It's an action adventure fantasy movie, so all bases covered there and is based on some of the most popular source material known to man. We can't imagine anything overtaking Lord of the Rings any time soon.

If swords and sorcery are not your bag then you're really missing out. Lord of the Rings is a fantastical tale about young Frodo Baggins and his journey over Middle Earth to destroy his ring (oh er missus) in a special volcano before it falls into the hands of the evil Dark Lord Sauron. Yep, a bad guy who's trying to get his hands on a dwarves ring. What more could you ask for?

The DVDs are packed to the point of exploding with extras and all 3 movies look great on your HDTV. Who would have thought that the man behind such 'classics' as Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles could ever churn out such an epic tale that makes you proud to live in a time where such magic really can take place on your very own television screen.

Yeah, maybe Star Wars fans will be screaming at their screens right now claiming they were robed of the top spot but when you look at LOTR in all it's glory how could anyone really ever argue?
