3. Cloverfield (2008)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxqSIsxMlYQ This is probably one of the most interesting monster films I've ever seen. Like The Blair Witch Project this movie also had a very strong Viral Marketing campaign behind it, and we were getting ourselves into the world of the movie more and more, so by the time we saw the film it was really exciting to see those things we learned from the Viral Marke
ting in the movie. All the basic things we needed to know about this movie we learned it on the trailer; a Monster attacks New York as we see the attack from the perspective of a group of friends. However those who followed the Viral Campaign knew that there was much more behind it. The Evil company Tagruato; the addictive drink Slusho! and the terrorist group T.I.D.O. Wave. So as you can imagine many people saw 2 different films altogether depending on whether or not they were involved in the viral campaign behind it. Those who didn't knew about the story behind the movie just saw it as a cool movie about a monster attacking New York, however those who followed the story since its beginning saw it as the inevitable conclusion of a well orchestrated conspiracy with a terrible execution. One of the most interesting things of the movie was sadly one of the most criticized parts of it; we never saw the Monster that much in the movie. However what little as we saw of it was definitely worth the waiting, the atmosphere, the characters and the entire situation made this film really effective. It was like no other monster movie we've ever seen, it was scary, creepy, compelling, and it had one of the best and most drastic endings in recent years. I really hope the sequel gets made, because I truly want to know where the story would go.
