10 Greatest Guilty Pleasure Movies Of The 90s
3. Never Been Kissed
For your own sanity, you will need to ignore the statutory rape vibe that permeates pretty much every single scene in Never Been Kissed.
Josie Gellar, an awkward 20-something determined to become a serious reporter, goes undercover as a high school student to do a heavy hitting think piece about the popular crowd (seems a little below the Chicago Tribune, but maybe it was a slow news...year?). While at high school, she flirts with a 17 year old (eek) while being perved on by her dreamy English teacher. Sure, she's actually in her 20s, but he doesn't know that, does he?
But seriously, ignore it. Ignore all of it. Because you've got Michael Vartan here and Drew Barrymore at her 90s goofiest, and what's important is to soak in all of the wish fulfillment inherent in the story.
How much cooler would you be in high school if you were actually your 25 year old self? Your skin would have cleared, you would have acquired all this new knowledge and expanded horizons from college, and most importantly, you wouldn't care as much about being cool, which is inherently cool.
The point is, for those of us who struggled through high school, Never Been Kissed is a peek into the opportunity we wish we all had: to relive and improve on our teen years, before eventually realizing that we're too old for this nonsense.
