10 Greatest ‘I’m Dead And I Know It’ Moments In Movie History
3. Iron Man Saves Everyone (But Not Himself) - Avengers Endgame
We’re all too aware that the MCU’s beloved Tony Stark kicked the bucket in Endgame, but in our grief it is easy to forget the exact moments that led up to his demise.
Thanos, with his smug little smile and self-assured tone once again states that he is inevitable, clicking his fingers together only to realise that he has been duped and across from him, the stones all rest in Tony Stark’s capable hands.
“And I,” he replies, “am Iron Man.” With a click of his fingers, he erases Thanos and his army. He knows full-well from what he has seen before that his chances of survival are pretty much non-existent. So when he takes that breath and looks at Thanos before making his final saving move, he knows he is condemning himself to death.
When he finally lets go, as Pepper assures him that it is all ok and he can rest now, it’s a very emotional moment for all of us, made better by his sheer determination as he made the decision to go through with it. Whether he clicked or not, he would die either way but this way he died, once again, a hero.
