10 Greatest Marvel Movies Never Made

1. James Gunn's Hit-Monkey

Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy released back in 2014, James Gunn has essentially made a name for himself by taking obscure and bizarre characters from the depths of comic history and making them beloved entities on screen.

From the Guardians, to the Suicide Squad and by extension Peacemaker, and likely in the upcoming Superman: Legacy, this has been Gunn's bread and butter. It feels that you could give the man just about any deep-cut character from comics history, and he could turn them into a gem.

Take, for example, Hit-Monkey. An obscure character certainly, now with a TV series that despite a positive reception has failed to set the world on fire, but this could have been Gunn's first Marvel movie. This was what the director initially pitched, while actually rejecting the opportunity to direct Guardians of the Galaxy.

In particular, James Gunn's animal characters never fail to be outstanding. Hit-Monkey could have been someone in the same vein as Rocket Raccoon, Astro, Howard the Duck, Weasel, or Eagly. Of course, fans should be thankful that Gunn did in fact choose to bring to life Star-Lord and co, but just imagine Hit-Monkey, a primate assassin, running alongside Cap and Iron Man to take on Thanos. It could have happened.
