10 Greatest Marvel Movies Never Made
9. Sam Raimi's Thor
Thor has had a strange run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There's no doubt that he has become one of the strongest and most popular characters in the franchise, and yet out of his four solo movies, one is as middle-of-the-pack as it gets, and two could genuinely battle it out for the title of worst MCU movie ever.
Everything could have been so different had several pitch meetings not gone so badly for Sam Raimi and Stan Lee. The legendary director brought Spider-Man to the screen initially in 2002, but almost did the same for the God of Thunder 11 years prior.
Back in 1991, Sam Raimi's pitch for a Thor movie was rejected by multiple movie studios, as comic book movies weren't really a thing outside of Superman and Batman. However, though specific details on the movie are scarce, it isn't hard to imagine what Raimi would have brought to the project.
The Spider-Man movies proved without question Raimi's passion and knowledge not only of Peter Parker but of his entire supporting cast, which, paired with his unique filmmaking style, resulted in a franchise still beloved 20 years later. Just think how this could have translated to Mighty Thor.
