10 Greatest Movie Brotherhoods Of All Time

9. GoodFellas

It may play second fiddle to The Godfather in terms of the greatest gangster film of all time, but such a statement would be a massive disservice to the absolutely stellar performances that the cast of GoodFellas provided. Ray Liotta's portrayal of the real life gangster Henry Hill and his involvement with the New York Italian Mafia is a tour de force of filmmaking. With supporting characters being played by Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, it's hard to find a more authentic gangster film when it's based on the first-hand accounts of a former member of organised crime. Pesci, Liotta and De Niro aren't the only excellent performers in Scorsese's epic, but they are certainly the main focal point of the film. The chemistry between the three actor's characters is so believable that it's impossible to not get lost in the world that Scorsese created, and when the number one rule in organised crime (so eloquently put by De Niro's Jimmy Conway character) is to never rat on your friends, you know that this isn't just a flimsy friendship, it's a lifetime commitment. The combination of Hill's sensibility, Conway's wise but ruthless demeanor and Tommy DeVito's (played by Pesci) completely sociopathic personality is what makes this trio extremely dangerous. From racketeering to murder, theft and excessive gambling, the three comrades do it all throughout the course of the film. Nothing lasts forever though, and Hill eventually rats on his former friends to save his own hide.
