8. Star Trek (2009)
http://youtu.be/N5BONJcookQ When I was sitting in the cinema waiting for this film to start I was very unsure whether or not what I was about to see was something I was going to enjoy. I am not a Star Trek fan, in fact I pretty much loathe the television series, so because of this I was apprehensive about a movie version. The only reason I went to see this film was because I am a huge science-fiction fan and at the time I was also a big fan of J.J.Abrams. Luckily for me, this opening was perhaps the greatest recent opening to a film I can remember and I remember being completely blown away when I saw this for the first time on the big screen. I also remember at the time being blown away by the actor who plays James Tiberius Kirk's father, who just happens to be Chris Hemsworth, aka. Thor, one of my favorite actors of recent cinema. As much as I can and have ranted on here in the past for my dislike of J.J.Abrams, I will always give credit where credit is due and I will happily admit that J.J. Abrams is perhaps THE master at creating strong opening. On my list (10 Greatest TV Pilot Episodes Of All Time) I ranked Lost as the second best and Alias as the first (both Abrams shows). I also believe MI3's opening is extraordinary also.

I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E).
My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
