1998's Godzilla had a huge marketing push as it was the first Hollywood production to feature Toho's beloved lizard. The ads made sure never to feature a good look at the creature, only teasing parts of him. Using the tagline 'Size does matter,' focus was emphasized on how huge Godzilla was compared to real-life objects such as ads on vehicles that stated, 'His foot is as long as this bus.'

The film's teaser followed the same philosophy and was even shot before principal photography began. Taking place inside a museum full of dinosaur bones, it served as a not-so-subtle jab at the Jurassic Park pictures.

A curator tells visitors that the Tyrannosaurus Rex was 'believed to be one of the largest predators to ever live on the planet,' but is interrupted by a giant foot that crashes through the ceiling. Crushing the T-Rex's bones, the teaser visually proclaims Godzilla's superiority over the dinosaurs as the footage ends with his iconic roar.

It was a bold move for Godzilla's marketing to blatantly throw a beloved film such as Jurassic Park under the bus, and yet it proved to be a successful one. Though the creature's US film debut disappointed long-time fans of the series, its marketing campaign is still beloved even today.
