10 Greatest Movie Teasers That Used Original Footage
3. Spider-Man
Spider-Man's big screen debut was highly anticipated, so to excite audiences, this teaser was released to promote the 2002 film. What made this trailer so effective is how unassuming it starts before revealing the Marvel superhero.
The footage opens with a bank heist which, to the average viewer, might seem like your typical action movie. The robbers then flee by helicopter but their celebration is cut short when they are caught by an unknown object which suspends their vehicle up in the air. As the camera pulls back, we see the helicopter caught in a giant web between the World Trade Center.
The teaser then reveals Spider-Man, as we get a few shots of him swinging through the New York skyline while showcasing the film's impressive special effects.
While the Matrix-inspired music makes it feel a little bit dated, this teaser let audiences know that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's creation was finally coming to the big screen.
Unfortunately, this piece of marketing was pulled from theatres due to the September 11 tragedy, and any trace of footage from the Twin Towers was digitally removed in the final film.
