10 Greatest Opening Scenes In Comic Book Movie History
10. Blood Bath - Blade
One of the major benefits of being one of the few R-rated comic book movies in existence is that it allows the filmmakers to go to places others simply cannot, and director Stephen Norrington totally took advantage of that fact in his cracking Blade. The scene begins as a man is lured into a club by a sexy seductress, and for a moment, everything seems fine, that is, until blood starts raining down from the ceiling, and the guy realises he's in the wrong place: he's the one human in a vampire nest. Just as he's about to be devoured by the lustful and hungry vamps, Blade shows up right on cue, and starts cleaning house with a shotgun. Wesley Snipes totally kills the scene, easily establishing himself as a bada** to be reckoned with, ending on a fiery note as he sets one vampire aflame and leaves him crisping up for the cops to find, while the traumatised guy he saved looks on with a combination of shock and horror. Due to the CGI effects of the vampires dying, it arguably could have made even more of its R-rating, but it was still a brutal opening scene, and one that totally set the tone for what was to follow.
