10 Greatest Opening Scenes In Comic Book Movie History

9. Nagasaki - The Wolverine

The Wolverine may have been a slight disappointment overall, but its excellent opening sequence certainly wasn't. Taking place in a Nagasaki POW camp during World War II, a young Japanese soldier named Yashida notices two bombers soaring overhead and raises an alarm, while freeing the American POWs and watching his hopeless fellow soldiers commit seppuku. Finally, Yashida frees Wolverine himself, who insists that he join him in the well to escape the blast. Yashida decides to do so just as Nagasaki is blown to bits by the bomb, but he's not out of danger yet. Logan then uses a metal door to shield Yashida from the blast further, but it can only do so much, and the fire begins to burn Logan's flesh. Yashida is saved, the fire dies down, and he looks on in utter amazement as Logan's skin quickly begins to heal. Before we know it, he's as good as new: a brilliant set-up for what is to come, and also the most impressive visual depiction of Wolverine's healing factor.
