2. "I Am No Man"

The Lion King Scar Mufasa
Warner Bros.

The Witch King of Angmar appears to be an invincible foil to the forces of good as Sauron's armies besiege Minas Tirith in Return of the King's penultimate battle. His devastating impact is underlined in said battle as he deals a devastating blow to the Rohirrim forces by mortally wounding King Theoden; the insidious creature invites his Nazgul to feast on the fallen king's flesh.

Eowyn - still disguised in armor so as to participate in the battle - plants herself between the Witch King and the dying Theoden, hacking off the head of his abhorrent steed. What ensues is a white knuckle fight sequence; the enraged Ringwraith wields a morning star the size of a small wrecking ball as he attempts to literally flatten Eowyn into the blood-soaked earth.

Despite a valiant effort, the Witch King eventually gets the upper hand in the duel and mockingly taunts the stricken Eowyn, informing her that "no man" can kill him as he prepares to deliver the killing blow - making it all the more satisfying as Merry pops up unexpectedly to bury his dagger in the creature's back. As the malevolent being sinks to its knees, Eowyn climbs to her feet and pulls off her helmet, before delivering the now immortal sign-off:

"I am no man."

Eowyn drives her sword into the gaping black maw of the Witch King's helmet with a visceral roar of triumph, rounding off one of the storied trilogy's most notably feel-good and empowering sequences.
