4. The Predator - Prey
In 1987, the world was introduced to the Predator - or the Yautja if you really want to be a pedant.
An alien killing machine that hunts humans for sport, the original Predator tangled with Arnold Schwarzenegger and his muscly chums in the forests of South America. Over the years that followed, the character got watered down and overexposed until making a grand return to the screen with 2022's Prey.
Set on the 18th Century plains of North America, Prey puts the creature up against a tribe of Comanche Native Americans who must survive in spite of their limited technology.
After decades of disappointment, fans of the series finally felt like the Predator they knew and loved was back. Here was a skilled hunter who relied on stealth and surprise to ambush its victims, revelling in toying with its targets before hitting the killing blow.
Prey was the fresh coat of paint the franchise was in desperate need of and now the possibilities for the Predator character are endless.
Although, please keep them away from other sci-fi villains.
