The Alien franchise has been one of the most prolific in terms of tie-in novels, comics, short films, web series, video games, and feature films, of which there are eight, including the Alien vs. Predator movies. The franchise never lays low for long, but not every project ends with a finished film.

There has been an Alien 3, thanks to director David Fincher, but the film he ended up making was not made from the original script. In fact, multiple treatments by various writers never ended up being made, and one of them was written by famed cyberpunk author, William Gibson.

In Gibson's script, Corporal Hicks would take over the role as protagonist from Ellen Ripley, whom he removed from the script altogether. Hicks would work together to battle a technologically altered from of Xenomorphs on a massive military space station, which certainly seems in line with Gibson's flair for cyberpunk.

The story revolved around the Aliens having been altered by the Weyland Corporation for use by the military, so the techno-organic aspect worked within the Alien universe. Unfortunately, the entire script was abandoned, and Fincher instead developed his film around Ripley being the sole survivor of a crash that brought her to a penal planet.

The good news is that while the movie never adapted Gibson's screenplay, you can listen to it as an adapted audio drama, which was released in 2019.
