10 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Never Made
7. Neuromancer
When it comes to William Gibson, his most famous work is easily 1984's Neuromancer, and like any seminal science-fiction novel, there have been attempts to bring it to the silver screen. The earliest attempts began soon after the book's publication, but May of 2007 presented the only viable project up to that point.
Joseph Kahn was reported to direct Milla Jovovich in the lead role, and the project entered into the earliest stages of development. Nothing happened until 2010 when it was reported that Vincenzo Natali had been hired to replace Kahn with a rewritten screenplay.
The following year, distribution was established, and it looked as if Neuromancer would finally be adapted into a feature film. Casting offers to Liam Neeson and Mark Wahlberg followed, but the development stalled when Natali left the project. By 2015, new money was injected by a Chinese company, but little to no development occurred.
The original film was effectively dead at this point, as none of the original writers or directors were involved, and the original script had been canned. In 2017, it was announced that Tim Miller would direct an adaptation for 20th Century Fox, but in the three years since that announcement was made, there has been no movement on finishing an adaptation of Neuromancer.
