10 Greatest Songs Written For Movies

5. I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing - Aerosmith (Armageddon)

It's almost ludicrous to think that Aerosmith never had a #1 hit in their prime. While the band are still heralded as one of the greatest bands of the '70s, they never were able to reach the top of the singles charts in their hard rock glory days. Just when the band were about to become rock has-beens, this little song from Armageddon set their career in motion again.

Written by song doctor Diane Warren, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" has pretty much everything you'd want in your blockbuster love song, with the melody dripping with desire. Though that kind of lyric could end up going down a more carnal path with a rock band, Aerosmith's take on it is incredibly faithful, with Steven Tyler making everything sound nothing more than sincere.

Even when his adlibs get a bit much in the outro, the song still holds together as one of the greatest love songs the Bad Boys from Boston have been a part of.

This song may have been a significant departure from the band's usual sound, but the pure power of the melody sent the track all the way to #1, giving the band their first ever chart topper. The hard rock crowd may not have liked this new direction, but when serving as a soundtrack song, this is about as close to perfection as Aerosmith ever got.
