10 Greatest Stoner Movies Ever

1. Friday

Friday Ice Cube
New Line Cinema

Helping to propel Chris Tucker and Ice Cube to fame, Friday is the first in a trilogy of stoner films, though Tucker only starred in the first, and given how bad the latter two were, that was certainly a smart choice. The first, however, depicts the daily travails of Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker) as their live their unassuming lives in Los Angeles.

Craig isn't a stoner when the film starts, while Smokey has just smoked his way through a stash of weed he was supposed to be selling. When his dealer Big Worm (Faizon Love) finds out, he gives them until Friday night to come up with the cash or be killed.

The various hi-jinks throughout are consistently hilarious - namely Tiny Tom Lister riding a bicycle - but it's the banter and chemistry between the two leads that really makes this one work.

Plus, it avoids the pitfall of having the protagonist reform himself and stop smoking at the end; this one toys with the convention and then pulls the rug out at the last minute. It's a celebration of everything good (and bad) about weed.
