9. Iron Man

Since movie studios had dropped the ball with Ghost Rider, Daredevil, and Hulk, nobody expected much when the head honchos at Marvel announced they were setting up a cinematic universe, with Iron Man serving as their launch title. When Robert Downey Jr. was cast as the titular tin-man, moviegoers still weren't excited since he'd been out of the limelight for years.

And we were so wrong. Downey's natural charisma and snarky wit allowed him to devise many of the most iconic moments in the MCU. The cheeseburger scene, the Galaga line, calling Rocket Raccoon a "build-a-bear" were all created by Downey going off-script.

However, the most influential improvised moment was the last line in Iron Man. The last scene begins with Stark having a press conference to quash the rumours that he's running around as an armoured superhero. Downey believed Stark was too narcissistic to hide his secret persona and improvised the legendary line, "I am Iron Man."

In that moment, the audience saw something rarely seen in a movie; a superhero throwing away their secret identity. Since these were Stark's final words at the end of Avengers: Endgame, it makes this scene all the more poignant.
