When Ben Affleck's Batman rears his tiny ears next year, he's got a lot to live up to, and not only in following Christian Bale's popular version. He had better also bring a damn good theme with him, such as the sterling work made by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard in the Dark Knight trilogy.

The title music of each of the films differs in subtle but important ways, acting as a gauge of the movies' main themes. For instance, there's a tenser beat to The Dark Knight's theme, reflecting the terror of the Joker, and the epic sweep of The Dark Knight Rises' score echoes the hardships and triumphs Batman undergoes in the film.

Batman Begins' theme is probably the best, though, partly due to it being the track that started off the trilogy's distinctive sound. Listen out for how the drumbeat sounds like bat's wings.
