In Wes Craven's original Scream, it's eventually revealed that there's not one but two Ghostface killers, with Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) ultimately both behind the brutal slayings.

And while the film lays out a number of clues for eagle-eyed viewers to figure it out ahead of time, there's an especially bizarre one that merits its own wider examination.

During the early scene where the principal characters discuss the murder of Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) at school, keep an eye on Billy and Stu's choice of footwear.

That is to say, they're both wearing the very same, distinctive black boots that Ghostface himself wears throughout the movie.

While on one hand this is basically just Wes Craven winking at repeat viewers, in terms of the movie's own internal logic you have to wonder why Billy and Stu wouldn't change their footwear into something that couldn't positively tie them both to Ghostface.

Perhaps it's simply another aspect of their psychopathy, or they were just so confident in their plan working, Billy's alibi paying off, and nobody figuring out there were two killers that they didn't much care.
