On top of introducing much of the world to the superb Christoph Waltz for the first time in the opening moments of his 2009 alternate war history picture Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino also presented a soon-to-be iconic big-screen baddy in the form of SS officer Hans Landa.

Early on, Landa comes across as an unexpectedly pleasant enough fellow, saluting farmer Perrier LaPadite and his family for their wonderful milk and respectfully asking his host whether it was fine to switch from speaking in French to English.

However, as their conversation unfolds, it soon becomes clear that not only is Landa a scarily intelligent man tasked with hunting down Jewish people hiding in the country, but that LaPadite is actually hiding a Jewish family under his floorboards.

The stress was real.

In the end, Landa extracts the information he's been searching for from a spooked LaPadite, with the latter being told that his family would be at risk if he didn't co-operate with the softly spoken villain.

And after a nail-biting few minutes of milk-fuelled discussion - which was tactically spoken in English due to the Jewish family below not knowing the language - Landa finally sealed his horrifying introduction by flipping back to French and savagely murdering the majority of the terrified family in front of a helpless Perrier.
