8. Clarences Death
In the film's penultimate showdown, Murphy and Lewis take on the Boddicker gang in an abandoned Detroit automobile factory. After killing the final few members of the group, Murphy goes head to head with Clarence Boddicker. But after Robocop becomes trapped under a pile of rusty scrap metal Boddicker plunges a metal rod straight through Robocops armour. Its another intensely graphic scene as Robocop cries out in agony; Boddicker twists the rod to cause even more pain. Its here where Boddicker meets a grisly demise, when Murphy stabs him in the throat with a metal spike with extreme blood splattering. Originally Verhoeven wanted Robocop to stab Clarence in the eye but knew it wouldnt make it past the censors. So he settled for a scenario where Robocop would stab Clarence through the chin. The MPAA censors forced Verhoeven to cut the scene heavily to avoid an X rating. What you see in the finished film happens off screen for the most part, although the blood spray conveys Boddickers death is significantly gruesome.
