10 Hard Hitting Foreign Action Films

7. The Raid (2011, Indonesia)

Hard hitting and simple in its premise. The Raid is a foreign movie made with an international audience in mind. What little story there is only connects fight scenes. All of them impressively violent in their own right. The stunts are so crazy and you hope no one was hurt making this film, but is it possible to pull off those stunts without being injured? A 20 man swat team are doing an off-the-books raid to take down a vicious mobster who runs a 30 floor tenement, residing on the top floor with his gang housed below. Once inside, the S.W.A.T. becomes trapped and they have to fight their way through the building knowing that no back up is coming. By locking everyone in the building, the action is constant and high energy. They use any object at hand for a brutally effective weapon. The stars are exceptionally fast and hard hitting, especially Iko Uwais who is the main protongist and Rama Yayan Ruhian, who plays Mad Dog, the main henchman. Their fight scene (along with Joe Taslim) is impressive and exhausting.
