The titular 'villain' of Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Azkaban, Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) is gradually revealed throughout the film not only as an escapee of the maximum-security wizard prison Azkaban, but as a devoted servant of Voldemort, the man who led the dark lord to the Potters' secret address in Godric's Hollow, and who is Harry's own godfather.

Hailing from one of the darkest pure-blood families, Black is an all-round ne'er do well, a blaggard and a madman. Except he's not!

It isn't until the film's third act, when confronting Harry and Ron's pet rat in the Shrieking Shack, that we discover he has remained true to the Potters during his imprisonment. And one of his final free deeds those 12 years ago - the one that led to his imprisonment - was intended to avenge his friends, by annihilating the real traitor: Peter Pettigrew.

Sure, he wasn't the most forthcoming figure of good in the film, inexplicably snarling at Harry in the street, slashing the Fat Lady, sticking to the shadows and sneaking around the castle, but what can we expect of him? He did his waiting. 12 years of it, in Azkaban!
