10 Harry Potter Plot Twists You Never Saw Coming
3. Harry Is The Lord Of The Wand
The complex wandlore of the Potterverse is fleshed out much more in the source novels, so for those coming into the series on the films alone, the wand-based revelations towards the end of Deathly Hallows: Part 2 can be more than a little confusing, and just as equally unexpected.
As Ollivander said, "The wand chooses the wizard".
The most important of the Hallows themselves is of course the Elder Wand, last possessed by Albus Dumbledore in The Half-Blood Prince, and since robbed from his grave by Voldemort with the intention of slaying Harry Potter and becoming the master of death.
However, after Harry beats Voldemort, we discover that Harry is in fact the master of the Elder Wand. It was Draco Malfoy who 'won' the wand from Dumbledore after disarming him at the top of the astronomy tower in the sixth film, not Snape, as Voldemort so foolishly assumed.
Thus, Harry disarming Draco in Deathly Hallows: Part 1 caused the wand's allegiance to switch to him. And, as a final knife in Voldemort's gut, having possessed all three Hallows, Harry Potter was technically the true master of death.
