10 Harsh Realities That Completely Ruin Classic Film Happy Endings

4. Home Alone -€“ Kevin Goes Into Care

Universal

The Happy Ending

After twice being separated from his family, once at home, and once in New York, Kevin McAllister realises what a selfish little monster he is and decides to turn over a new leaf, and embrace his family, despite them being irredeemably awful themselves. He's never Home Alone, as the franchise shifts to far inferior characters, and everyone stops watching.

The Harsh Reality

Having informed the police of both occasions when they had left their pre-teen son unattended for a considerable length of time, and unconsciously allowing him to be attacked by a pair of violent robbers twice, the McCallisters would have faced a lot of questions and presumably an investigation by social services or child wellfare.

And there's no question of the outcome - in the time the neglectful parents left him to fend for himself, Kevin was exposed to violent movies and pornography, and had access to a firearm, as well as unofficially committing credit card theft, and definitely committing fraud to book into a hotel. Kevin would undoubtedly be taken into care, cruelly ensuring that his revelation of the value of his family is short-lived.
