10 HATED Horror Movies That Are Awesome Now

4. Triangle

the burning screaming man
Icon Film Distribution

This 2009 British offering follows protagonist Jess as she embarks on the boat trip of a lifetime. Part of Triangle's gimmick is that it is a very confusing film at first, that slowly unfurls itself as each twist gives way to more understanding of what came before. As with many films that hinge their appeal on a gimmick, Triangle was at first met with a mixed response at best.

People in general praised Melissa George for her performance as our leading lady, but with the caveat that even her strong display couldn't make up for the film's shortcomings. Many critics and audiences alike lamented that the film wasn't scary, just confusing and repetitive - a criticism that actually boils down to saying 'I didn't understand it straight away so I'm angry.'

Since its release it has managed to gain a fair bit of praise, with more viewers commenting on its clever direction and surprisingly poignant emotional turns. It's now generally regarded as a pretty solid horror, carried steadily on its twists, turns and thriller elements.

Plus (and I forget this every time) it has one of the Hemsworths in it, and that's always a selling point for someone.
