10 Hated Movie Moments That Aren't As Bad As You Think

8. Itsy Bitsy Spider - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Hated Scene: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has become one of the most despised movies of 2014. If 2012's reboot suggested Marc Webb had only been hired because of the Spider-pun in his name, the sequel all but confirmed Sony had firmly put a quality movie behind keeping the rights to the character from Marvel. There's lots of dumb moments - Green Goblin disease, Gwen Stacey's slapstick head bang - but one of the most derided has to be the final battle with Electro, where to menace his nemesis Jamie Foxx's supercharged villain plays Itsy Bitsy Spider on electrical pylons. Why It's Not So Bad: Seriously? That's one of the most inventive parts of the movie. So much of the film is by-the-book superheroing, mixed with a bit of teen comedy banter; the action sequences, despite their visual brightness, feeling rather forgettable. This musical beat sticks in the mind and shows an attempt to try and use Electro's powers for something unique (unlike Rhino or Goblin). You can say it's a tad cheesy, but the jokey way Peter responds to it ("I hate this song") means it's all played as a bit of fun. The earlier dubstep inside voices in the Times Square showdown is likewise as undeserving of hate, but here it also serves as a glimpse to a more unique film that could have been made.
