10 Hated Movie Moments That Aren't As Bad As You Think

7. Singing Dwarves - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hated Scene: The Hobbit is an epic adventure tale that takes forty-five minutes to begin the epic adventure. Before we leave the Shire there's antics with Frodo, a prologue almost as long as The Lord Of The Rings' and general lack of desire to actually get started. In amongst all this, we see the band of dwarves setting out to reclaim their home become a literal band as they sing a couple of shanties just to pad out the run time. Why It's Not So Bad: So many superfluous elements were added to The Hobbit to turn it into a trilogy. Small scenes were turned into action set pieces, The Return Of The King Appendices were plundered and entire subplots were created out of thin air. One thing that did come from J.R.R. Tolkien's book (and would have probably existed in a briefer take on the story) is those songs. They're far from filler chucked in by Peter Jackson and actually have an impact on the wider film; Blunt The Knives helps create the sense that these dwarves aren't the cream of the crop warriors like the Fellowship, while The Misty Mountains is essential in building the film's recurring musical motif.
