10 Heart-Breaking Moments Of Self-Realisation That Defined Great Movies

4. The Deathly Hallows Part II - Harry Potter Must Die

Harry Potter is the perfect nerdy hero - he basically bumbles his way through the entire franchise, either accidentally winning (by his own admission) or being helped massively by his intellectually superior classmates, and other members of the Order, and when he finally realises he has something real to do, it's simply, devastatingly, to die.

The revelation of the Horcruxes on the back of Professor Trelawney's prophecy made it pretty obvious that Harry wasn't long for his world, but the young wizard was never really up to speed on the fact that he would have to die until the final act of the entire series, and when it does come, it's a particularly heavy moment in the poignant sequence that reveals that Snape was basically good all along.

Harry's resolve is pushed back slightly by the emotional impact of that revelation, but it is no more heart-breaking for fans, who have to watch him choose to die, and then sombrely call his dead friends and family to his side to give him courage.

Ultimately, Harry's confusing "death" leads to the somewhat uncomfortable revelation that Dumbledore was basically a lying, manipulative douche for most of the franchise without anyone knowing, but at least the Boy Who Lived is actually allowed to live up to his catchy moniker.
