10 Heartbreaking Deaths of Movie Characters We Never Even Knew

With his follow-up to the creepy and unnerving Hereditary, Ari Aster's Midsommar doubled down on making audiences about as uncomfortable as physically possible. There are some moments in this film that are genuinely difficult to watch, and almost all of the main characters are ultimately killed before the credits roll.

No one that Dani (Florence Pugh) travelled to Sweden with lived long enough to leave again. The murders of the likes of Mark (Will Poulter), Josh (William Jackson Harper), and Christian (Jack Reynor) were brutal and disgusting, but the first deaths of the picture were those of Dani's family, and it was truly upsetting.

Midsommar opened with firefighters discovering the corpses of not only Dani's sister, Terri, but also their parents. Terri was mentally unstable, and her sister had been trying to reach her before she took to flooding the entire house with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Dani naturally reacted how anyone else would, in that she was unspeakably crushed by the news. Florence Pugh is an incredibly talented actor, and her guttural cries and screams brought to the opening scenes an undeniable level of emotion that may not have been there otherwise for the deaths of three characters the audience had never been introduced to.
