10 Heroes We Need To See In The DC Cinematic Universe
10. Aquaman
Other Names/Alias: Orin, Arthur Curry First Appearance: More Fun Comics #73 (1941) Powers/Skill Set: Marine telepathy that grants the ability to manipulate sea life, superhuman strength, endurance, durability, reflexes, dexterity, healing and senses. Enhanced swimming speed. Able to comprehend and speak any language on earth due to telepathy. Aquaman ranks lowly on this list because he's technically an exception to the rule - he's very likely to appear at some point and he essentially is a flagship character, though not confirmed as appearing in the Justice League film as of yet. That being said, he is no doubt an essential asset in regards to the cinematic universe. Aquaman is the king of Atlantis which inherently gives him power, duty and jurisdiction. If the DC Universe is to be exactly that, a universe, they'll mostly likely have to establish Atlantis as a place. Even if Atlantis is never a focal point, there's certainly a wide depth to explore in either a solo or team adventure, both narratively and visually. If Orin does appear it'll likely be as one of two things, either a straightforward superhero abdicated from his throne, or the ruler of the sea. If they choose to go that oppositional route and have Aquaman gradually befriend the team, like his more gruff, anti-hero depictions in the early 2000's, it could be a strong basis for a plot. One thing to consider when dealing with Aquaman is that there's always the fear audiences won't respond well to his character. Aquaman has an awful reputation in popular culture as 'the guy who talks to fish', which is a possible reason DC could avoid his inclusion, though he would prove quite a useful building block.
