6. Johnny Depp
Is anybody else sick of Johnny Depp now, in the sense that he's been playing the same character over and over again for the last few years, whilst pretending that he hasn't? I'm talking about his "quirky quirk" characters, of course, all of which are highly interchangeable at their core, despite the fact that they've been made to look different with make-up and CGI. So what does he need to do to prevent a backlash? He needs to play a
baddie. I'm not talking about the "bad guy" roles he had in movies like
Sweeney Todd and
Blow, or in flicks such as
Public Enemies, where he was romanticised all out of proportion, but an actual bad guy in the vein of Leonardo DiCaprio's recent turn in
Django Unchained. Depp is still welcome to ham this role up if he chooses, of course, but it'd be kind of mesmerising to see him playing a scumbag with no redeeming qualities at all, in a movie that actually
lets us dislike him.
