If you're after a smooth and sophisticated take on the action movie genre, you should perhaps look elsewhere. Hobo With A Shotgun is every bit as lowbrow, lurid and ludicrous as the title suggests. We're in Grindhouse/exploitation territory here, a low budget post-apocalyptic wasteland where the elites take gleeful pleasure in tormenting the homeless in a variety of sadistic ways. Of course, when oppressors keep on stamping on the downtrodden, something's got to give - cue Rutger Hauer's titlular hobo armed with a pump action bringer of justice. Shot in garishly saturated hues and featuring a roster of over the top psychopaths, Hobo With A Shotgun might not be up there with Planet Terror when it comes to playful homages of 70s midnight matinee movies, but it's worth it just to see Hauer hamming it up as he blasts his way through legions of goons.
