10 Hidden Details In Movie Opening Scenes

2. Raiders Of The Lost Ark - Introducing A Female Helped Kick The Male Spiders Into Gear

You'd be hard-pressed to find an opening scene as widely celebrated and adored as the one which took place at the start of Steven Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark. Though the rest of the beloved flick was still an absolute riot, this first scene probably sits as the most memorable one in the entire movie.

This ten minute section sees Indiana Jones revealed for the first time, before he enters a booby-trapped temple in search of a golden idol. Jones is also accompanied by a fellow called Satipo, who unfortunately finds himself with a few eight legged pals crawling all over his back once inside the structure.

However, you probably weren't aware that each and every tarantula on Satipo's back was actually originally male. This proved to be a bit of an issue, though, as none of the spiders would move around once Spielberg shouted action. So, the decision was made to introduce a female into the mix and before you knew it the creepy crawlies were scurrying about all over the place.

Spielberg reportedly began to shout 'Shoot!' and told actor Alfred Molina to look scared, to which he replied by saying 'I'm scared!'.

That's one piece of method acting you won't see many actors lining up to partake in.
