10 Hidden Gem '80s Slasher Horror Movies
9. Edge Of The Axe
If looking for an underrated brisk, fun popcorn slasher, Edge of the Axe is right up there when it comes to the output of the '80s.
Helmed by José Ramón Larraz, here we have a small community where a masked killer is running wild, but this is another slasher where there's a little more going on that simply mindless kill after mindless kill. Instead, the victims of this maniac all end up being linked together, and the inevitable reveal of the identity of this 1988 offering's villainous threat involves quite the twist.
Edge of the Axe may not be one for the big-time gore hounds - the actual carnage of the picture not being shown in much particular detail - but it's a film that very much doesn't overstay its welcome, has some strong performances at its core (Barton Faulks being a standout as part of this unravelling tale), and actually nicely leaves itself open for a sequel that sadly never came to be.
For those on the hunt for a film that nicely sums up where the slasher subgenre was by the second half of the '80s, look no further than Edge of the Axe.
