3. The Changeling

The biggest question of your writer when putting this article together was whether or not The Changeling is really a hidden gem.

Massive horror hounds could well be familiar with the movie, while more mainstream audiences will likely conjure up images of Angelina Jolie diving into the mystery or her missing son in the 2008 picture of the same name rather than Peter Medak's 1980 film.

Medak's Changeling has managed to both be a hugely influential movie and one that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. A slowburn psychological supernatural offering, the '80 effort centres on George C. Scott's John Russell, a composer who moves out to a spooky Victorian mansion following the tragic death of his wife and daughter.

With this mansion having been vacant for 12 years by this point, it's no surprise for audiences when strange goings on start to happen. There's bizarre banging sounds, windows smashing, taps turning on, ghostly visions, and all of this eventually leads John to a locked, hidden room up in the property's attic and an investigation into the sordid past of the house and its previous owners.
