10 Hidden Gem Vampire Horror Movies
4. The Werewolf Vs. The Vampire Woman
Werewolves and vampires have long been a staple of the horror genre, and this 1971 picture served up a nice dollop of both.
Also known as La Noche de Walpurgis, The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman is actually the fifth film in a franchise based around Paul Naschy's werewolf, Waldemar Daninsky. Often thought of as the Spanish equivalent to Lon Chaney, Naschy made a career for himself playing furballs on screen. But more importantly here, The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman - and the initial reception to it - is viewed as being the launching point for the Spanish horror boom of the '70s.
Picking up after the events of The Fury of the Wolf Man, this León Klimovsky-helmed effort brings Naschy's Daninsky back to life once two silver bullets are removed from his heart as part of an autopsy. Where vampires come into this, two students - the brilliantly named Elvira and Genevieve - unwittingly resurrect Countess Wandessa de Nadasdy after accidently spilling their blood on Wandessa's corpse.
Before you know it, Elvira and Genevieve have been corrupted by the Countess' power, and all three end up on a collision course with the Wolf Man.
