In Nina Forever, poor Rob (Cian Barry) finds himself in quite the pickle.

With his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O'Shaughnessy) having been killed in a car accident, Rob's world is thrown upside down. After a failed suicide attempt, Barry's character is faced with constant grief over the loss of his 'one true'. Well, until he starts to fall for his work colleague Holly (Abigail Hardingham).

Spending more and more time with Holly, Rob starts to experience some happiness once more. The only problem is, Nina isn't quite as out of the equation as one would think. Instead, this deceased character reanimates and torments Rob and Holly each and every time they're about to have sex.

On the surface, Nina Forever is a fun horror-comedy with some nicely grotesque moments, but there's clear themes of grief, guilt and closure running throughout Ben and Chris Blaine's movie. The Blaine siblings deserve huge credit for taking an idea which could've been played totally for laughs, and spinning it into a film that, while indeed humourous at times, has a sense of heart, emotion and some mighty dark elements to it.
