10 Hidden Gem Zombie Horror Movies

2. Ravenous

Also known as Les Affamés, 2017's Ravenous takes place in the immediate aftermath of a zombie-esque outbreak.

Another film set in Quebec, Canada, this Robin Aubert movie is a tense affair overflowing with mistrust and caution. Here, we have a Quebec that has been ravaged and left decimated, with the few small batches of survivors extremely wary of anyone whom they come across for fear of those people being infected.

Relationships are formed, relationships are broken, people are murdered, people are turned into the undead - and this is all done in a stylish, atmospheric way by Aubert and his team.

Of all of the movies featured on this list, Ravenous is likely best described as being somewhat in the same mould as The Walking Dead when that famed AMC series was at its very best. Sure, there are monstrous, unrelenting threats out there in this post-apocalyptic landscape, yet so often these monstrous, unrelenting threats are of the human variety rather than the shuffling, zombified variety.

It's with that sense of dread and uncertainty that Ravenous shines, as the order of the day is merely surviving from one day to the next.
