10 High Grossing 2015 Films That Actually Made No Profit
4. Seventh Son
Production Budget: $95,000,000 Worldwide Gross: $110,623,265 Estimated Losses: $79,376,735 Seventh Son was one of those movies that everyone involved knew it was going to bomb hard. It was loosely based on a little-known fantasy novel series, had been shot back in early 2012, and it sat on a shelf for nearly three years because the special effects studio working on the film went bankrupt and because Legendary Studios decided it didn't want to release it. Meanwhile the composers dropped out of the film. Universal eventually purchased the film and released it in February 2015 after multiple delays. The fact that it actually got released after all that was a victory in itself. Seventh Son only grossed $17.2 million in the U.S., so the much larger overseas box office at least saved the film from being one of the biggest bombs of all time. Luckily for Universal it became the first studio to release three billion-dollar movies in one year: Jurassic World, Furious 7, and Minions. Because of that, the losses of Seventh Son didn't hit the studio too hard.
