10 High Grossing 2015 Films That Actually Made No Profit
2. Tomorrowland
Production Budget: $190,000,000 Worldwide Gross: $208,636,322 Estimated Losses: $171,363,678 It seems impossible that a movie can gross over $200 million at the worldwide box office and still lose over $170 million. But when that movie cost $190 million to make, that's what happens. Tomorrowland even opened #1 at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend, but it quickly fell down the charts and never even broke $100 million in the States. It even lost more money that previous big Disney bombs John Carter, The Lone Ranger, and Mars Needs Moms. Why Disney decided to spend so much money on a sci-fi movie based on a theme park attraction is puzzling. On top of that, George Clooney is a well-known actor but outside of the Ocean's movies he's never been a blockbuster movie star. Luckily for Disney, on top of the huge success it had with Inside Out this year Disney has The Good Dinosaur and Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming out before the end of 2015. Disney will end up having a great year overall.
